Re: registering and insuring a UK car in Bulgaria

Just an update which might prove useful for someone in the future. I ended up keeping it on UK plates and insuring it Europe-wide, and crucially the policy allowed me a 7-day window to regularise it - basically get it MOT'd and taxed in the UK. I got the car checked out and serviced in Bulgaria befo...

Re: Car Hire Recommendations

Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced 'one way' car hire? I want to pick up the car from Sofia Airport and drop off the car later the same day in either Bourgas or preferably a bit further south like Sozopol or Lozenets. From what I can see the companies I've checked add a €100 ...

Re: registering and insuring a UK car in Bulgaria

Thank you again mememe for all the thoughtful advice. The link and quote really puts an end to any plans for registering it on Bg plates as even if we overcame the residency issue the car would only legally get us as far as the ferry into the UK, and after that we'd be driving illegally. So as the t...

Re: registering and insuring a UK car in Bulgaria

Thanks mememe, I am a UK resident so thanks for the heads up re- driving a Bg-reg car in the UK - would I not be allowed to drive it at all, even for a few weeks until I got it re-registered in UK? (I thought there was a grace period, but may be just for tourists - my wife is also a UK resident so e...

Re: registering and insuring a UK car in Bulgaria

Thanks truckyboy for this advice. I didn't know you could put more than one name on the registration documents, and very interesting suggestion about the temporary insurance to drive the car back to UK for a pre-booked MOT - will look into these. Another option I thought about is transferring owners...

Re: registering and insuring a UK car in Bulgaria

Hi, just reviving this discussion to ask about my options for a bit of a pickle I'm now in regarding my car which is in Bulgaria but still UK-registered... I left my UK-registered car in Bulgaria (off-road) in August 2018 as I had to get back to the UK quite quickly. The intention was to go back for...

Re: The Bastardisation of Bulgaria

Yes quite sad to read. My experience of spending most of this year there has to some extent backed up that pessimistic picture. My take is that the old elites (privileged, well connected layers) under the degenerated communist system, or at least some of them, have merely adapted to the new capitali...

Re: Problems ending a mobile contract

Thanks all for the replies, and really sorry it took me so long to get back on here. With my wife's contract she didn't want to end it early, just to stop at the end of the 12 months, but they need her to give a month's notice (again not unlike the UK) - the difference is that they require this in w...

Problems ending a mobile contract

I wondered if anyone could offer any advice on a problem my wife is currently having ending a mobile contract with Vivacom. We spent most of this year in Bulgaria with the expectation/hope of staying until the end of the year, but came back to the UK in August. In the January my wife (who is Bulgari...
