i would suggest you do what we did. Find the area you like, we are 22 kilometers from Gotse Delchev and about the same distance to the border. Then focus on about three villages, rent in one of them, until you figure out what property is either empty or the owners want to move to the city and make a...

Having had a bitch with stress incontinence, I recommend considering six monthly injections as an alterative solution. She STANK all the time, and had to be bathed most days. We have just had our Krakachan boy neutered at 17 months, to try and calm down his fighting every dog in sight, it should tak...

Lidl has some excellent reheatable hand warmers, two for 3.99 leva, you put them in boiling water for 10 mins to recharge amd they work for an hour when you click a metal tag. I have just used one in a pocket of a 'hello kitty' hand muff for my grand-daughter.

We have lived in the South West in a village for the last four years and have never been approached for a bribe.

Why should you have to show anything to prove you have insurance or cover? The medical services could just be informed that a long stay card does not give the bearer of it free or reduced cost access to health care in the UK, unless the owner is a pensioner. Seems a lot simpler to me! We have not be...

Actually to be pedantic, no, I don't. I live in a Bulgarian muslim village, which is sometimes called Pomak. There are a few ethic Turkish villages near us (given we are about as far from Turkey as you can get and still be in Bulgaria), in fact we are just about to have a marriage between a family f...

happy Kurban Bayrami

Waiting for all the village kids to turn up to get their sweets this morning, for the Eid festival. Four days when we can't do any work in the village, just sit and talk to friends, and dance later when the musicians turn up.

I remember being told as a child in Canada about someone sending their daughter out to get 'green' logs to slow down the cooking stove and the girl came back looking sad, saying 'Sorry, I can't find any green ones, there are all brown!'. We put oak logs on our stove and then cover them with wood ash...

Yes we have all our firewood for this winter dry and stacked round the house, plus enough already to get us well into next winter. Some of this load I might bark cleanly and cut into exactly 33 cms lengths and use for cordwood building.

Yesterday was the day we were expecting to get our firewood for the year and we had a bit of a shock! We had gone into the local forestry office to (we thought) order our firewood for the year, on the advice of the villagers, one of whom went with us. We normally order around 6 to 8 cubic meters, an...
