We found large numbers in Spain, with their own newspapers and even regional editions. Many were employed in the building industry, but large numbers in the tourist industry also. Even smaller towns had groups who were buying their own properties etc--sadly many of them just gave back the keys and returned to Bulgaria when the recession hit a couple of years ago.
My wife was reading forums for Bulgarians overseas and found the comments from many countries to be fairly 'normal' stuff, but those living in the UK were chatting about 'nonsense' rather than the serious issues of life in another country. Not meant to be a sweeping generalisation, just how she saw things over a very short period.
There was an interesting post though from a fairly recent arrival who wanted to know about claiming benefits, but was fairly roundly condemned by many of the regulars. A few told of how they had lived and worked in the UK without claiming a penny for many years, and how this newcomers attitude wasn't welcome as it would turn locals aginst them.
