could be useful although I am sure that with the recession fewer are coming to UK for work.

Some are arriving right now through SAWS the seasonal agricultural workers scheme administered in Bulgaria by a few oligoplists on behalf of the UK Borders Agency.

The UKBA explanatory material does point out that they are not obliged to leave the UK once they finish up or decamp from their arduous toil.

Don't know if it's been discussed before, but is there any information about concentrations of Bulgarians in the UK,or are they fairly well spread out with clusters in London ,Manchester and other large cities ? Are they also concentrated in tourist/seaside areas ?
Purely a matter of curiosity.

Spread out I think. Of course the ones who come on SAWS are throughout the UK. A lot come for short periods. Some were conned into being "self-employed" as window cleaners etc. Many are marginalised.

We found large numbers in Spain, with their own newspapers and even regional editions. Many were employed in the building industry, but large numbers in the tourist industry also. Even smaller towns had groups who were buying their own properties etc--sadly many of them just gave back the keys and returned to Bulgaria when the recession hit a couple of years ago.
My wife was reading forums for Bulgarians overseas and found the comments from many countries to be fairly 'normal' stuff, but those living in the UK were chatting about 'nonsense' rather than the serious issues of life in another country. Not meant to be a sweeping generalisation, just how she saw things over a very short period.
There was an interesting post though from a fairly recent arrival who wanted to know about claiming benefits, but was fairly roundly condemned by many of the regulars. A few told of how they had lived and worked in the UK without claiming a penny for many years, and how this newcomers attitude wasn't welcome as it would turn locals aginst them.

Haringey, N22 is their preferred area. Maybe the Turks make them feel at home.
