Bulgarian restaurants in the UK?

Postby ChazKK » Mon Sep 20, 2010 2:27 pm

Hi everyone,
Are there any good Bulgarian restaurants/shops in the UK (especially if they are in the south west of England)?

Thanks!

chaz :)

Well, there is…
http://www.bgyell.co.uk

and they list foodstores and “Bulgarian café-restaurants” (the actual “restaurant” link has nothing Bulgarian that I can see). However, nothing in Bristol...

and you can buy foodstuffs online at…

https://www.bulgarianfood.co.uk/catalog/

and here is something interesting for those that think Bulgarians aren’t helpful…

There was something I read about Bulgarian restaurants in North London , one had been there for many years and the other one was fairly new . I can't remember now , but it may have been on the Sofia Echo website . Tim .

The Village in London isn't so bad (although it does suffer from the competition of the local, and better, Turkish/Kurdish places). If you want to go somewhere to practice your Bulgarian it isn't a bad bet at all - and there is an excellent Turkish baker a few minutes walk away.....yummy bread and cakes, anyone?

Howdy,
Thanks for the replies. I was in sofia about a year and a half a go and I especially remember the food being really nice. I guess it was because the girl I knew at the time, knew what/where was good and what/where was not. (I had no idea!). I liked the fact that salad was a standard dish with almost any meal (she was a bit of health nut). Although one thing that struck me was the amount of salt in bulgarian food and that nobody in bulgaria knows what gravy is!!!

c :)

This is a good site to locate BG Food Worldwide and also has some nice recipes: http://www.findbgfood.com/index.htm
And to those who aren't fans of Bulgarian food, well your going to the wrong restaurants. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes that serve well cooked, fresh, locally sourced food, with many making their own yoghurts, cheeses and desserts and are as good as any in Europe.

Maybe those who haven't had a good meal in Bulgaria, should come to the south-west where I have had meals that surpass many of those I have eaten elsewhere in the world.
