Thanks for that very useful info Joy - just one question how small is the tax per person?

I'm also thinking of converting some of my old farm buildings in rooms to run as a small B&B, probably no more than 5 rooms.

Are there any source to find out about the Bulgarian/EU laws or regulations regarding this?

Any more information or updates welcome.

It's 40 stotinkis per stay, not per night, so whether guests stay 1 night or 1 week you pay 40 stotinkis to your local municipality.

Hi Pelican, (long time no speak).

I think the tourist tax might vary from area to area and also depend on the sort of accomodation you offer.
We were told 50 stotinki/person/night for a 'room for rent' in a village near Veliko Tarnovo. We have friends with a hostel in VT and though their tax was 50 stotinki/person/night I seem to remember them telling me it's recently doubled to a lev.

As stated all municipalities are different, But here in Ruse at our guest-house we pay 1 leva per person per night.

Can someone detail exactly what we would need to do to turn our family home into a B&B? Can someone simpify the procedure for me?
Bulgarian and EU laws/regulations please.
What taxes would we need to pay apart from the 1 Lev pppn?
Has anyone had any problems with the authorities over this?
thanks

:D

You need a registered company but İ assume that you had one to buy your house. The company has to be active and should mention what activities it engages in. You have to register wıth the local authorıty (Municipality) and pay the 'Patenten Danuk'. Public Health Department will want to have a look.

İ think you MUST really have someone local who speaks Bulgarian to act as your advıser. Lawyer ? Accountant ?

I could ask my lawyer about this but i think she would charge for her time?

I'm in Sofia area, I have the company that I used to buy this house, can this same company be used for renting?

My question is how to legally run a small B&B, renting a few rooms.

Has someone who has done this please explain what you have to do to get registered / legal?

thanks
