Thanks to Scot's post and Wikipedia
I now know how historicallyimportant the 9th of Septmber is for Bulgaria.

https://bg.wikipedia.org/wiki/Деветосептемврийски_преврат Google Translates it.

7 September is also a significant date. It was the date when the Southern Dobrudja was returned to Bulgaria in 1940. Some rather vigorous "ethnic cleansing" was practised with Bulgarians being deported to the South and Romanians to the North.

9,9,1944 was the date when the Bulgarian Communist Party and their allies in the "Otechestven Front" together with the partisans took over the government.

It was a bit more than a coup d'état. Can be seen as revenge by the partisans and leftist groupings for the events of 1923 and 1934.

The House of Saxe-Coburg-Cotha in the persons of Ferdinand and then Boris plunged Bulgaria into three disastrous wars between 1912 and 198 and then again in 1940.

Deveti Septemvri was the beginning of their undoing. It should be remembered that the survivors of the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha were given refuge first by that great philanthropist and democrat King Farouk. When his reign came to an end, General Franco invited them to Madrid. Enough said.
