Any techie person out there?

Postby rgawith » Wed Feb 14, 2007 2:12 pm

I bought a Hyundia TV and separate DVD player from Densi the other day. Tested in shop and worked fine once scarp lead was plugged in. However when I have tried it at home if I just use scarp lead, I have picture and music on DVDs but no speaking sound (or is there but very quite and cannot hear it at all) and if I plug in just yellow/white cable no picture, just blue screen.

Any help as tried all settings, every combination and no go!

Sure it is something simple but totally stumped!

Rachel

Hello rgawith,
I think its been posted on hear before somewhere but here goes. The audio and visual pins on a scart lead are at opposite sides of the connector so if not plugged in level you will lose one or the other. This can happen when pushing d.v.d. back into position on t.v. stand etc........
...........try jiggling (?) it......................................................RON

Read on here that one end of the scart lead is for sound and other end is for visual ..........so as beercat suggests make sure they are in correctly

tried jiggling

Postby rgawith » Fri Feb 16, 2007 4:24 pm

Tried jiggling and no luck.

If I just put in scarp lead I have fine picture and background sound like traffic, sirens, car doors etc but no actual dialogue unless very liud shouting.

If put in the white audio out cable on the TV and the other end into the 2 CH Audio out on the DVD I get loud fuzz and blue screen.

Or if into the 5.1 CH Audio out SL video socket on the DVD goes blue again.

If the video out yellow cable goes into the S Video on the DVD then get blue screen again but still background noise.

Any ideas???

Rachel

Hi Rachel,
sorry the jiggling didn`t work, have you tried different dvd`s. We found the cheaper players will work with anything, including pirate copies...
.......(or so I have been told.......hmmm) whereas the more expensive machines tend to be a bit fussy..............................................Ron

Hi Rachel

Connect the dvd to the tv via the scart lead only & the go into the setup menu of the DVD PLAYER find the sound settings & change the out put to stereo or 2 channel, save the setting & then try to play a shop bought (pre recorded dvd / not a copy !) it should be ok . I think dvd is set to output dolby surround 5.1 & the result is you are listening to the surround track !

regards,

Mark

OK tried this but nothing on setup on DVD to change to this. On setup under audio there is only settings for central speak, left speak etc from small, large and none. Nothing about dolby stereo or anything.

When I press sound button for TV comes up as 1/1 5.1 CH Eng.
