buying in the Sofia area

Postby schwartzy » Fri Sep 01, 2006 4:11 pm

Hi, we are going out to Bulgaria for the first time in a couple of months and are looking to buy a house for a holiday home in the area surrounding Sofia. We are thinking of small towns or villages around 20-30 kms outside Sofia. Any recomendations on this part of the country? Preferably with good transport links to Sofia. Thanks

have you thought about the Borovets area. It is in the mountains and has the advantage that you can get a good return on your investment by renting during the ski season.

Do you know what the transport links are like around this area?

transport links to Borovets are exellent. In act it is probably the best connected ski resort in BG.

It is approx one hours from Sofia airport by car. You can take the scenic route past Lake Iskar (good for watersports) or you can take the morotway via Kostenets.

Either option is about an hour but if you get stuck behind traffic on the scenic route then it might take a little longer.

The roads between the various towns/villages around Borovets are also in resonable condition by Bulgarian standards.

Borovets is about 1.5 hours from Plovdiv which is the second biggets city in BG and also has an airport.
