Just made payment - of a nominal sum - to cover me for the rest of 2008. In fact I often go private but I like to know that if I need hospital treatment I can rely on the BG NHS.

I don't want to be charged 100 Leva a day for a hospital stay like some unfortunate foreigners I know ! Not far from where I live !

Hello everyone, as i will be returning to Bulgaria in September with my husband and new baby i would like to ask if anyone has had a baby recently and managed to get the immunisations done easily in Bulgaria for babies, for example has anyone managed to get the meningitis c jab which is given in the uk at 3 months and 4 months, and also Tetanus, Polio, Diphtheria, whooping cough etc, all the immunisations are given to babies at 2 months, 3 months and 4 months, our baby will receive the first jab, but wondering about how to go about getting the other immunisations in Bulgaria, and i would be very gratefull for any information that other members have, ps our house is in the Elhovo region, southeast Bulgaria

What do we need to pay for in Bulgaria?

Postby englishman2008 » Sat Oct 11, 2008 10:48 am

I'm trying to find all about what is actually free in comparison to UK
1. Primary and Secondary education.
2. Healthcare - maternity and pre-natal care.
3. Doctor's visits and medications.
4. Dentists.
5. Libraries.

And all the other benefits of living in U.K?
anymore information?
Where to find this?

I'm not working in Bulgaria but I have a private income.

Education is free for your children if you are from another EU State

Healthcare is a contributory system. You make contributions when you work or when you have an active company. Healthcare can also be free if you have a Retirement pesnio n from another EU State.M
Public libraries usually charge a small membership fee. most have only limited resources in foreign languages.

What is NOI?

Postby englishman2008 » Wed Oct 22, 2008 11:40 am

I have a Bulgarian company which i used to buy my house which is it's only function.
Would I have paid NOI?

What is actually covered under NOI?
Can someone explain the system? Is it like NHS? Free at the point of care?
Is it a good health system?
How much would it cost to go private? Insurance or?
Should my wife have our baby here in Bulgaria or go back to UK? How much will it cost here?

If you are employed, your employer pays contributions to NOI every month. That is one route to entitlement. If you have a company that is doing business you will be paying NOI. That is another route to entitlement If your company is dormant you will not be paying and will have no entitlement to NOI. If that is the case you will have to go private.

There are special arrangements for those in receipt of a State Pension from another EU State.

BG Health Service is adequate in my experience. Just remember that this is not Scandinavia. Sometimes it is easier just to go private and pay cash. Last time I went to see the ENT specialist privately it cost 20 Leva. I could have saved that by going to my GP and getting a referral but I just could not be bothered !

There is a lot of information on the forum. It can repay study - but do not expect everything to be 100 percent correct.

There is a lot of information here. You may need to dig for some of it. Have a look at some of the threads here. That should answer a lot of your questions.
I sent you a pm but got no acknowledgment.

Hi
I have just found out I am pregnant at my age! I am planning to have the baby (if all goes well) in Bulgaria and have the babys birth registered in bulgarian so the baby will be bulgarian. If that is the case would the baby be entitled to what any other new born bulgarian baby would be entitled to? If anyone has got any info it would be great.
Thanks
Sue
