BG NHS cover

Postby Pam » Sat Jun 03, 2017 12:15 pm

Some young friends want to join the NHS here and pay the voluntary contributions. Does anyone know whether this has to be back dated to their arrival here or if it can be done from their application date?

They will start paying when they join. It used to be that three years back contributions had to be paid on joining but I don't think that applies now - best check though.

It has to be backdated to the date that they arrived - the law used to be up to two years but now its up to five. Its not much though - about 15 euro a month I think. I've just had to make some back payments as I received by permanent residency in 2013 but only paid insurances from 2015. Cost me 850 leva. You only need to do this if you want to make a claim on the NHS or if you need the certificate that you don't owe the state money
