That probably makes perfect sense Scot with the historical Russian and Turkish influences

Well here down in bulgaristan they have a heavy accent and yes if you do not pay much attention there is not much difference in the accents when they switch from bulgarian to turkish.

I surprised myself when I discovered that I can follow Serbian and Russian films !! Bosnian too, but Croatian is a step too far.

You should be able to understand Macedonian as well... Russian?
You may catch words...but they have different meaning and use.

I take the position that Macedonian and Bulgarian are the same language.

I can understand a lot of Russian dialogue on films. As long as they do not get too literary, technical or high-falutin'.
