BALCHIK 1st Kaliakra Cup Regatta

Postby blackaqua » Mon Apr 21, 2008 7:18 am

Just had notice of the 1st Kaliakra Cup-Black Sea Regatta.
It is taking place from the 29th May until the 1st June in the bay of Balchik.

Yachts will be divided into 3 classes
Class A - Keelboats, national class Conrad 25P
Class B - keelboats, IPC handicap
Class C - Keelboats, free class

To participate in the 2008 Kaliakra Cup is free for all eligible yachts and there will be free berthing at the Marina Balchik.

Applications for participation in the Regatta will be accepted by the yacht club Balchik until 10th May 2008 all sailing instructions will be delivered in Bulgarian and English.

The office of the 2008 Kaliakra Cup is situated in Marina City for further information please contact Ms Milkana Nonova 0887 368417

The 1 st Race will take place on the 30th May at 10:00 hrs
It is the off shore race - Balchik - Cape Kaliakra - kranevo - Balchik

For those non Yacht'y types I am sure it will be a good day out, the Yacht Club Balchik is one of the oldest Sea Sports clubs in Bulgaria. During the 90's the Club ceased to exsist, but was revived in the Summer of 2007.

Hi Bogdan

Unsure whether you are an organiser or knowledgeable about the event?

If you are could you recommend some good viewing points? I know Balcik would be good to see them finish but what about other places. Would the boats be viewable going past from Kamen Bryag? What about Kaliakri?

Where is this Kaliakri which you permanently mention in your posts? Or do you mean Kaliakra?

The name "Kaliakra" is of Byzantine Greek origin. It is a combination of "καλός" ("beautiful") and "άκρα" ("headland" or "fortress") and is traditionally translated as "Beautiful Headland". (Wikipedia)

Hi Chippy

Yes, I'm one of the organizers. All the yachts will go to Kaliakra from Mangalia but I don't know how near in order you to see them. Anyway we will have a satelitte system (see the regatta site www.blacksearegatta.com) and you will be able through Google Earth to see when one yacht is approaching. If you have any other questions - bogdan.alexandrescu@ycr.ro

Cheers,
Bogdan
