Sightseeing natural or historic sites

Postby thepeck » Sat Jul 23, 2011 7:04 pm

INot sure if this is the right place to ask but i've got about a week in Bulgaria, entering from Greece leaving from Bourgas.
Any suggestions of must see sights of the natural or historic type would be appreciated
Regards

Bulgaria has a little booklet of the top 100 sites to visit (there are more) which you'ld probably be a bit hard pushed to fit into a week (I can see a challenge coming on here ) and you can collect a stamp in your booklet at every one . Actually I've only got 1 stamp , although I've been to many more but didn't know about the booklet . Where you are entering from Greece would make a big difference regarding which would be the most practical . There are many good placesto visit in the Rhodopes including Zlatograd and the 'Tomb of Orpheus' , and of course there's Rila Monastery (if you don't mind paying tousist prices ) . And near to Bourgas you should visit Sozopol before leaving .

This is most likely the same list that Hippyboy is alluding to…..

...and there are links to more information about virtually all of them.

Places to visit

The old town of Nessebar, just north of Bourgas, is a Unesco World Heritage Site well worth a visit. It's full of old churches and original buildings. Can be a bit touristy, but still not to be missed.

You're a Wiki-marvel B52 , as there's little info in the booklet . It's actually more like the old eye-spy books , where you need to get a little stamp to say that you've visited every one ; trouble is I'd already been to a dozen of them before I got the booklet , and now I have to try to remember to carry it around with me . I went to Nessebar 3 weeks ago , and I'm sure it would be beautiful without all the tourism , but ....
