Waiting for all the village kids to turn up to get their sweets this morning, for the Eid festival. Four days when we can't do any work in the village, just sit and talk to friends, and dance later when the musicians turn up.

Actually to be pedantic, no, I don't.
I live in a Bulgarian muslim village, which is sometimes called Pomak. There are a few ethic Turkish villages near us (given we are about as far from Turkey as you can get and still be in Bulgaria), in fact we are just about to have a marriage between a family from one of those and our village, and it was noticable how differently the women at the engagement party who came from there dress from the women in our village, much more 'modest'. Our villages converted to Islam during the 18th century mainly due to the massive tax breaks offered by the Ottomans to anyone that did so, as opposed to staying Christian and having to not only pay more tax to the Turks but also the tithe to the Church! They are a pragmatic people, who often celebrate both Islamic and Christian holidays, with lots of booze and dancing. That is what they are doing right now, just came back to the house for a warm. It is interesting living here as many traditional customs that have died out in the rest of Bulgaria have survived here.
