troyan - I really can't be bothered to argue with you any more... I have better things to do with my time...

At the start I merely stated that I partly recalled some negative ADAC posts here which have, unfortunately, been lost and that it would be good if the original posters could repost their experience for the benefit of everyone here. You then get uppity for no apparent reason - Have you got shares in ADAC or something...?

You say 'recovery' and I say 'tow-in'...(Let's call the whole thing off...)

Y'all drive careful now.....

i havent got shares in ADAC but could equally ask did one of your girlfriends/boyfriends run away with an ADAC rep cos you seem to despise them ,

I am not arguing just discussing your incorrect statements.

We broke down - of all places in the Brecon Beacons, S Wales. We had taken out the ADAC plus option only a few months previously. Telephoned ADAC from the stranded vehicle and within an hour, the RAC turned up. They fixed the vehicle on the roadside and escorted us back to our house just to make sure everything was working okay.

Truly excellent service.

If you compare quotes from the AA etc for travel to BG.......first of all they wont cover cars over 10 or is it 15 years old......so thats me out straight away

Then they quote something in the region of 150 quid for a week travel to BG.......so pro rata about 7800 quid for the year..but wont cover you in Serbia and wont cover a trip which doesnt start and end at your address etc etc etc

I dont think they even offer yearly cover....but mememe will know.

breakdown cover

Postby truckyboy » Thu Mar 03, 2016 3:21 pm

I made the terrible mistake of not bothering one year with breakdown cover..sods law and all that, my exhaust blew..adac was passing by, and offered to tow me and my caravan to a local garage, it cost a fortune..anyway i have never been without cover..i have just moved from Green flag as they would not cover my old car anymore, but Kwik-Fit did..so i am now covered. My car is a E300 turbo diesel mercedes, its has everything i need of a large car, good fuel economy ( 45 to the gallon ) speed, aircon, comfort etc. I always have it serviced and MOT`d prior to leaving the uk, and hoses checked etc and aircon topped up..i have just spent £2000 on a tidy up ( well 2 new wings and door seals, and a good polish..so she will take me to bg hopefully without problems, but will get her repaired if need be..she has been to bg many times before, and as they say, if you look after something, it will look after you, and i am very reluctant to spend thousands on another car,. to give me what i already have, just to show a later number plate..the good thing is, i dont have a cam belt to wory about, the good old merc has a chain drive, unlike modern cars.

we are driving back to the uk for a months visit, and car booked in monday for replacement cambelt and water pump all in for 320 leva, as i don't know the history of the car so decided to get it done.

Last year drove over to uk and back with just a normal service with no problems but not taking the chance this time,,i know a couple who broke down in Hungary and were covered with ADAC towed them to a garage and was given overnight accomadation as car could not be repaired until the following day.

Are there any good recommended alternatives to Adac apart from AA & RAC ?

There are certain things to consider Scanniman

The AA and RAC only cover 'trips' and the RAC will only cover so many consecutive days which is 180, and generally 90.........shudder to think what that would cost........ With ADAC you are just covered all year including the UK, (any vehicle from any country)

The AA and RAC cover can not be bought abroad..and your 'trip' must start from the UK and end in the UK......so no good for BG based people.

some useful info here

http://www.rac.co.uk/breakdown-cover-ne ... ver-levels

note all of the companies including ADAC have the same 'get out' clauses so you probably wont be towed through five counties to you address.......which is probably why they call it European breakdown cover and not European recovery.

hi troyan, just looking for cover to drive from UK to BG in a few weeks time. Last time I got it from Swinton , didn't cost anything as long as I cancelled within 3 months of the start. Well worth it.
