Has anyone travelled to Northern Bulgaria from England by flying to Bucharest in Romania then either driving or taking the train from there?Would you share your journey and any tips you have?
Thankyou.

Yes I have done that trip twice !
KLM have flights to Bucharest form all local airports - change at Amsterdam !
I got a taxi to Rousse the first time - then the train from Russe to Varna, the second time I got the same taxi to Russe and then another taxi to my house !
There is a thread on this
http://www.mybulgaria.info/modules.php? ... rest#22589
think that is how to add a link !
Pm me for taxi contact !

I've done this route a few times.

KLM flights are great but you must change planes at Schipol? Amsterdam.

Flights arrive in Bucharest way too late for the train to Ruse so unless you have a driver/taxi picking you up it means an overnight in Bucharest.

The morning train to Ruse is slow but a good experience you'll meet some intersting people in the carriage for sure.

The infrequency of BG trains means that you will often not connect with an ongoing leg that day. Buses are an easier and safer way to go on to your destination.

Thats the good thing about the KLM flights ! Time for a snack in Amsterdam and into Bucharest early afternoon - time to get the train or taxi !
(The sandwiches are awful though !)
:o

pm 7 red he is the Romania expert !!!!
The taxi will sort out getting you across the border !
And will take you straight to your house - maybe best for the first time - to give you chance to look into trains etc !
Good luck !

hi

Thanks for the endorsement Polly

If you are thinking about flying into Bucharest I can arrange for you, pick-up from the airport, transport to the border and/or to your home in Bg, via a Toyota saloon or mini bus, depends on the size of your party.

If you are going to Bucharest for visa's etc I can also arrange for you an English speaking driver who will look after you during your stay in Bucharest.

Dinky 1234 has just used this service.

For more info pm me or phone Razvan direct on 0040723980187.

I will be pming you.I just wish to pass through Bucharest on my ourney to BG.I have been looking at flights:KLM do the one via Amsterdam for £164 but you can get one from BA direct to Bucherest with a flight time of three and a half hours for £190 approx.(£189.50)
All flights appear to be cheaper bought direct from the Airline in question.

There are a few horror stories about the bus & train journeys from Bucharest to Ruse.

Does anybody have any up to date information about the time it takes to cross the border & if the hassles are now reduced?

Also the approximate cost of a taxi from Bucharest airport to Ruse.

Thanks in anticipation.
