Import of plant and machinery

Postby pauly » Sat Sep 19, 2009 11:01 pm

Hi all,

We are planning bringing over our mini excavator to undertake some works to our house, it will not be used commercially y us but i may sell it on when im finished with it. Does anyone know what we will expect at the border, will we have to pay an import tax? Will we be able to convince them that its for domestic purposes only (and does this make any difference)?

Any help/guidance appreciated.

Kind regards,

Pauly

If you are bringing it from another EU state there should be no import duty.

if you have any documentation take it with you ie certificate of conformity or similar - I know when we buy Caterpillar machines they have this sort of stuff with them when delivered new and it does state about EU something or another on it and it may help to convince them (if necessary) that it has been manufactured or used in the EU
