20 lev a month (5% of your 400) for internet works out cheaper than going to an internet cafe once a week (3.60lev return on the bus + internet charges) , and then you can while away the hours more productively ; or chat on forums , whatever takes your fancy . Tim .

I was just trying to point out the reason for a lack of response from people in the position of living on such a small sum,we know of at least 3 couples who have small incomes and as such have no internet/tv. Personally I couldn't be without them either and would justify the expense every time!! But then again I'm not living on 400 levs a month.

I guess its different if you're a couple , but being single myself I certainly wouldn't be without internet and sattelite tv , even if I had to live on 300lev a month (which thankfully I don't ) . Tim .

Living off 400 leva no problem.
You just adopbt 100% the Bulgarian way of life, work the land for your fruit and veg, keep livestock for your meat and eggs, learn how to preserve everything, doing this you are outside all day and not burning electric or Logs, if you do it right you will be too tired to sit up and watch the standard 3 channel tv or light your fire, you would crawl into bed recharge your batteries ready for next day hard work, if you drink or smoke, then you will be making your own wine/rakia, growing your own tobacco and smoking that. Out that black painted drum on the roof for hot showers in summer
Be warned the moment you start thinking about the how it all used to be you have lost the battle. The Bulgarians can do this all we have to do is change our mind set.

Or just realise that on a standard UK pension we don't need to, we actually have a great life, when I think about how it used to be i just remember both of us working full time, paying exorbitant bills just to exist, and every time we went out to socialise feeling like we had been robbed when we calculated how much we had spent, oh and needing 4 holidays a year to keep from cracking up!! Been here for nearly 4 years now and have never felt the need to leave the country. Surely the whole point of your expenditure is having the funds to fulfil your needs, and on a personal basis we just find our personal needs are completely different, hence the lack of expenditure getting away from it all!! Also the fact we have worked hard all of our life to acheive this level of comfort. Plus the amazing weather, which is why we needed to get away previously is on our doorstep, so congrats to those of you that live on a smaller income but we don't as we don't relish the thought of leaving behind a load of dosh, having a ball and loving it  [/quote]

400 lev a month

Postby rodz » Sat Dec 04, 2010 11:13 pm

Im sorry MOD if this is off the point but after reading Tracyy reply ie we have a good life, of which I agree, I would like to say what happened to me today and show how bad it is for some young people in Bulgaria. In the village I live in is a young Gypsy (about 14 years old) comes to my house often, I have always sent her away and even the landlord and the landlady of the pub I drink in have told her to stay away from my house. However today she came to my house socked wet through, cold and crying, I sent her away because of what people in the village may think if I invited her in. I know the family and there a bad lot with many children and an older daughter on the game. After she left I drove to the shops and saw her walking home when it was still pouring with rain. I have twin daughters in England and feel so guilty that I have agood life but cant help this girl who has nothing and will finish up as nothing

Sorry to sound so harsh, but as soon as you let her in she will be back for more, your reputation will be in shreads as no doubt stories will go around the village about you,
you did no wrong in turning her away, people may disagree with that but you are here for a reason and I doubt your reason is to help every waif that turns up at your door.
If you want to help speak to the mayor and see what you can do annon.
