Import car from Japan to Bulgaria

Postby kuzco » Thu Apr 20, 2017 6:37 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out my costs for importing a car from Japan to Varna, BG.

My dealer informed me I need to pay:
- 30% import tax
- 20% VAT

But my research shows that the Import Tax is 10% and not 30%.

Link to calculation:
https://www.dutycalculator.com/new-impo ... 226438851/

Official document from "customs.bg"
http://www.customs.bg/document/10157 ... page 294, CN code 8703 24 90

Another article regarding this:
https://freeline.bg/en/customs-formalit ... n-bulgaria

Who is right here??

Thanks!

Japanese cars are RHD as far as I recall - there was some talk of banning their importation, so you might want to check that.

Seems a lot of effort to go through - why not sell the car in Japan and buy a new one in BG?

Just a thought, but this could simply be a language thing. In Bulgaria 'tax' generally means 'cost' as opposed to the more precise British meaning of 'tax', therefore I THINK your agent could be saying that the COST of importing the car would be 30%, which would be made up of 20% plus 10%.
As I said, just a thought.

Would be interested to know if you have found a japanese exporter who will ship to Bulgaria or whether it will be done via Greece

They will ship to Sofia and Burgas. The wife used Tradecarview.com as her search site when she brought one into the UK No rust and in pristine condition and still cheap with all taxes and MOT'd by port agent.

Buying a car in BG

Postby westwitch » Sun Jul 16, 2017 1:43 pm

Can we have some up to date information on the process of

1) buying a car in BG and all the necessary documentation that involves and pitfalls to look out for.

2) bringing in a car from the UK - left hand or right hand drives.

It would also be useful if we could have some idea of costs, although I realise that this will depend a lot on make/model and personal insurance costs, but maybe just a rough comparison with costs in the UK.

1/ passport or lichna cart you go to a notary for the contract then to the KAT to change the number plates and register it in your name
No hassle just lots of time ,best thing to do is find an agency, ask at the kat

2/ never drive aright hand drive car here its crazy ,why???
the cars on UK plates have lots of rules attached to them now,
BG drivers are not good Left is best,
just my opinion but in 12 years seen lots of damaged right hand drive cars

3/ 450 leva to register an imported car most car fronts are full of German Austrian etc most insurance is less than 200 for small car 300 fro a Range rover,,prices decrease when the car is over 10 years old
Council tax has to be paid evry year or you cannot Mot it
hope that helps

thats a strange request that you must pay your council tax to mot a car..a great idea by the way, i always pay evry year, and only drive to bg not leave it there, but one never knows.
