Does anyone no the cost of having a telephone connected, theres a phone line going to the house, also will a uk phone work in bg. thanks griswalds.
UK phones in Bulgaria
Hi,
A lot (most) UK phones will work fine in Bulgaria, all they need is pins 2 and 5 (when connected to a UK Master socket) wiring to the two wire Bulgarian line.
Having said that, I have now had a phone line on order for 8 months and BTK have been utterly pathetic in their total lack of interest as there are no spare lines in my village (Resen near VT) and they apparently see no need at all to expand to meet customers needs. It will probably take someone dying in the village before a line becomes free.

I'm packing to come out next week and thought about bringing a phone. There seems to be a mixed message on the usability of UK phones. Are the sockets the same as ours?
Is 8 months for a line typical? I'm going to be in the Dobrich region and was thinking more like a few days - am I the eternal optimist?
If it is a long lead time, what mobile network is best and what are the costs for a typical 200 minute a month contract?

Bills for the phone are issued monthly and it is up to you to go and ask. The bill will almost certainly not find its way to you. There is a charge even if you make no calls. Who will pay when you are not in BG ? Direct debits are difficult if not impossible.
Yoiu really need to get a friend or neighbour to do this if you are not in BG. Or a Property Management Service.
It might be easier just to use a mobile.
