Bulgaria to Build Another Mountain Tourist Complex

Bulgaria starts developing another tourist complex in spring of 2007 in the east part of Stara Planina Mountain, Darik News reported.

The first facility of the Berkovitsa Mountain complex will be a ski lift with, covering 2000 metres stretch that will connect the ski track of the Kom mountain hut to the Middle Kom area. The lift must be finished by the end of the next construction season.

Construction company Glavbolgarstroy, Berkovitsa town's Municipality and the school board founded a joint-stock company Kom 2016 with starting capital of BGN 8.5 M to fund the project.

I'm with Gushter on that one.

Destroying the unique lanscape for the sake of skiing is ridiculous and unforgiveable

I live in the town and this has been talked about for a long time.It may or it may not happen.........
I bought because of the NATURA 2000 status(i met one of the people involved)and the undeveloped staus of much of the North-West.
However the locals want it and like much in Bulgaria the idea of National parks/regulated/un-regulated land is a flexible concept depending on who is involved............

Spent a couple of days asking people in the town about their thoughts on the project.Some remorse as to the impact on the way of life but 90% plus want it.Jobs v nature.....no contest unfortunately Sad
