Hi All, Icould really do with some advice we bought a house in the Elhovo region back in 2003 and then bought a piece of land in Kavarna some 18 months later all through BP, Who we paid to pay the taxes ect after a couple of years we started to pay Elvira to do this for us along with Miltona, Today we have recieved a email from Mihail Stoychev - General Manager

Can anyone advise us about this tax and this company and how much the fine will be, we are seriously worried why couldnt we have got this last week we were over there then and perhaps have sorted it out

Don't worry about it.Pay it when your out next at your local Municipality.Yearly tax on land is generally peanuts.It's company return fines that cost an arm and a leg.

So you probably bought this land in 2004, meaning there are 9 years garbage tax to pay. The fines are not high, they are simply interest on the outstanding amount.
The thing you need to worry about is garbage tax is usually only levied on commercial land - which as your company bought it, technically it is. You should have yearly declarations as to the use (or non use as it were) of the land, usually in November I believe.
You won't have done these, so consider a garbage tax to average roughly 500 leva per 1000m2 per year. So for a 2000m2 plot you would probably owe 9000 to 10000 leva plus 500 or 600 in interest. This is from experience.
IF it is lower then you got lucky. The fact they have contacted you would suggest the tax is not going to be 200 or 300 leva or less.
If eventually this is not paid, possibly seizure of company assets will follow.

We had the same problem a few years ago.An old house in Provadyia with 4000sq.mt of land we have was being charged as commercial because it was owned by the company,which we owned.
It accrued an amount of about 500lev including interest.
We then had our Bulgarian representative obtain a form which is filled in every year"usually about Oct/Nov,then sent to the council offices in Provadyia,this stops any charges for garbage collection fees,it just costs us a few lev a year.
Don't ask me what the form is but any legal person should be able to get the form from the relevant Municipal offices,we just sign it and our rep just posts it off...bingo

Don't worry, I have not paid taxes on a couple of plots for about the same amount of time and I live here! Sometimes agencies will inform their clients that the taxes and stuff need to be brought up-to-date as they don't have many other ways to make money
Pay your taxes next time your'e in town and don't worry about it...
