I have been scouring and i mean pages and pages of properties on many different sites, and why is it i find a lovely renovated house with oodles of land for say... 45000 euros... then i come across a derelict house with hardly any land in the same area for a similar amount. This happens alot.. Now i have to question if its just greed on the owners behalf and do they really think someone is that stupid to go.. wow thats a nice nice house and oh! must have that one..and ignor the really nice one down the road.. ??? Sorry if i sound a cynic, but surely people are not that stupid.. Actually i usually end up laughing at some of them, so i guess its therapeutic anyway.. |

The web is maybe not the best way to go. There is a lot of misinformation or disinformation on the property sites.
Best to go and see. In fact the only way to do it. |

| I agree with Scott. Unless you are buying off plan the web prices are totaly unreliable. Once you enquire you are likely to find that property is either sold, never has been for sale, or is twice the price. And this doesn't happen only to foreigners. |

I too must agree with Scot...
best way is to pick an area then go have a look. Sometimes it pays to hire a Bulgarian translator for the day and get them to do the skaing etc. You might find the prices much lower then. Good Luck in your quest.

thanks.. I plan to go in May, unable to go before that so this is just an interesting exercise looking at properties. I cant sell till May unless i want a hefty capital gains tax. I will have been here 5 years then, 4 months to go and i know prices may have changed, but i am prepared for that.

| I notice you are in Cyprus, my father-in-law lives in Cyprus, he bought 2 properties in BG 2 years ago but due to land problems in Cyprus he hasn't yet moved over. In October last year met up with him in Bulgaria and we went to see his properties, we then took him to see ours (which we bought in August) and he was totally shocked. Shocked, in as much as we have a run down house which needs renovating (the same as him), huge plot of land (which he doesn't have) and we paid considerably less than he did 2 years ago. It has since come to light that the estate agent he used has ripped a lot of people off, allegedly charging Brits in pounds and paying the Bulgarians in Leva. He absolutely loved our village and bought a piece of land with a derelict house on it whilst we were there and is now going to move to our village instead. He used the same estate agents who we found through this site and who we absolutely trust and cannot recommend highly enough. I guess the point I am trying to make after waffling on is that you need to be wary of 'rogue' estate agents. |
