|
|
Hi all
bought a Garmin Nuvi 2 years ago and used it going to Bulgaria.....delighted to have it. Came back to Ireland using it last week and realised it needed updated. Checked the Garmin site and saw a deal for £99.99 to give downloads 4 times a year for the life of the Sat Nav. Thought that was a good deal so signed up for it. Then discovered that the download was not an update of what we actually had on our Sat Nav but a choice of several maps ...eg.....France, UK and Ireland, Greece and Italy and others. All I wanted was my own all Europe map updated and thought that was what I was getting. No point having a map of France or Italy or UK and Ireland and not the whole of Europe. Got in touch with Garmin....."well sir, your Sat Nav will not be able to take a whole map of Europe now" and a load of other waffle. Demanded my money back.....still have,nt downloaded anything....but no way am I getting the money they say....I signed to take the maps offered and if I don,t download them thats my perogative they say.
Told me if I delete some things off the Nuvi it may take more memory....they suggested taking off all the other languages available except English.....no idea how to do that anyway.....but at this minute I,m so angry I feel like dumping the Garmin in a bog next to our daughters house.
What a con. !!!!!! |

Garmins are great.....but!
These are better, in that they can use Tomtom (and other) maps and have plenty of bells & whistles. I wouldn't be without mine in BG or anywhere else

Seedy
The unit you mention is a very good price - Can you download the BG maps for free? (and easily?)
(I'm new to the world of sat nav!)
Cheers

Thegeordie
......you are so right....back in Ireland a week and nearly ready to blow a fuse. No satisfaction at all from Garmin and even less from my credit card company. NOT a good day. But we,ll get something sorted. Drive back was fine ....lost a few times....hence the need to update the Sat Nav......but we found some beautiful places in Austria. From our place in Bulgaria to our daughters house...2173 miles. Will take a week to go back....want to spend a few days enjoying a few places. Thinking of going through Serbia.....will probably end up in a Belgrade prison cos I,m not paying any stupid fines to placate a bent cop. |

Seedy, I would be interested to know if/where one can download a decent map of buglaria as the Garmin maps are pants (big clowns pants in actual fact). I bought the 2009 upgrade before we went over a few weeks ago, it said it has "major urban areas" for BG, but it has about 6 streets near the motorway in Plovdiv. It didn't even have Bd. Russki in Plovdiv, one of the longer, bigger streets.
Does anydody know what maps are on a BlackBerry? The sat nav on the BBis UK only, but at least one can do GPS navigation. Without it, we would still be on the back roads. |

Hi Loobs,
I have this map on my Garmin Nuvi 860 which I downloaded from the net which has a lot of detail for Plovdiv and most other cities, including Sofia, of course.
Garmin MapSource Bulgaria Routeable (BG Route) v4.1 (Map Date: 25.08.2008)
It's unlocked and assuming that you are familiar with how to load a gmapsupp file onto a Garmin GPS , it can be downloaded from the net.
Just put the above description into Google and you should find some links. |
