| Description: | LOCATION: The village of Kapinovo is located in North-Central Bulgaria and it is part of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality, Veliko Tarnovo District. Veliko Tarnovo is the old capital of Bulgaria in the Middle Ages and due to this fact one of the most remarkable tourist sights. There are remains of the medieval citadel of Tsarevets, overlooking the Yantra river, old churches and preserved Revival houses, which are of interest to both Bulgarian and foreign tourists. The monastery of Kapinovo, named after St Nikola, is located in the surroundings of the village of Kapinovo. It was built along the Veselina river, at the foot of the beautiful Elena Share of the Balkan Mountains. Legend has it that Tsar Ivan Asen II had the monastery founded. In the times of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom the monastery was an important religious centre. Massive wooden gates and steep, stone steps lead to the monastery yard in the middle of which the monastery church rises. The church keeps a rich collection of icons, including one of the Blessed Virgin, most likely painted by Pope Vitan. The monastery offers accommodation. Because of the proximity of Plakovo and Kapinovo monasteries they have been nicknamed the twin monasteries.
